St Pancras International to host prestigious musical premiere of Pictures of Life
“They say today our DNA makes every man a brother,
every woman a sister, kin to one another.”
Lionel Oscar Segal Composer
12th June 2012
St Pancras International is to host an exhilarating musical pageant in July, just as the station plays host to the flood of visitors expected over this extraordinary summer.
Pictures of Life, by composer and lyricist Lionel Oscar Segal, celebrates the Earth, its inhabitants and the human spirit. Extracts will be performed on the station concourse at 3pm on 15th July 2012 near the Olympic rings.
This will be the first time that extracts from the musical pageant have been performed publicly. The choir will be led by conductor Steve Edis and will feature 8 soloists including a barbershop quartet, an ensemble of vocalists and a 9 piece orchestra. Following the performance on the station concourse a full performance will take place at the Camden Centre, starting at 5pm.
Ben Ruse, from HS1 the owners of St Pancras International, explained why they are hosting this production, “Pictures of Life is an excellent way to celebrate what is set to be a busy and dynamic summer at St Pancras International. We are fully dedicated to providing a platform for new artistic works within the station and Pictures of Life is a fantastic example of this.”
The performance, put on by production company Quirkas, will raise money for the World Land Trust who is acting as charity partners to Pictures of Life. John Burton, CEO, of the Trust explained their involvement, “Pictures of Life raises awareness of important environmental issues in a unique new way. The music is exhilarating and the lyrics memorable and very fitting for 2012. We are delighted to be a part of it.”
Composer Lionel Oscar Segal views the piece as the culmination of his life’s work. He said. “I’m absolutely delighted and honored to have the first extracts played at this incredible venue so that it is freely available to all. Sir David Attenborough inspired the piece so it is fantastic that the World Land Trust have agreed to partner with us.”
If you want to attend this free performance you simply have to be on the station concourse at 3pm on the 15th July 2012. A full performance of Pictures of Life is taking place immediately after at the Camden Centre, directly opposite St Pancras International. Tickets are £10 adults and £5 children and are available online from www.picturesoflife.eventbrite.co.uk.
